How I Ended Up Writing a Book About Indian Breakfasts (and How It Changed My Mornings)
How I Ended Up Writing a Book About Indian Breakfasts (and How It Changed My Mornings)
Honestly, I never thought I’d write a recipe book. I’m not a
chef, not a fitness influencer, not even a “health freak.” I’m just someone who
was tired of waking up every day, skipping breakfast, and then feeling like I
was dragging myself through the morning.
Growing up, I always heard people say, “Breakfast should
be your heaviest meal, because it gives you energy for the whole day.”
So I took that seriously. I’d load up on parathas with desi ghee, a strong chai,
sometimes even leftover curry and rice from last night. And for a while, I
actually believed that was the “healthy” thing to do. But instead of feeling
energetic, I just felt… sleepy. Like my body was using all its energy to digest
what I’d eaten. And naturally, due to the heavy eating, I gained a lot of weight.
Then, at some point, I swung the other way and started
skipping breakfast completely. I would wake up, chug a glass of water and go
one with my day without eating anything, thinking that would help me lose
weight. Spoiler: it didn’t. I’d just end up starving by mid-morning and reach
for a biscuit or a pack of chips anyway.
Somewhere between trying every “healthy” breakfast trend
online (yes, even the cold overnight oats I never actually liked) and counting
calories that didn’t make sense, I realized something: Indian food isn’t the
problem. It’s how we make and portion it that messes things up.
That thought kind of stuck with me. So, I started
experimenting. I took our regular Indian breakfasts and tweaked them a little.
A little less oil, different ingredients, slightly smaller portions. Nothing
fancy, nothing unrealistic.
After a few months of doing that (and a lot of burnt pans and
failed attempts), I had a small collection of recipes that were actually tasty
and under 300 calories. That’s when I decided to put them all together into a
small eBook, which was partly for myself, and partly for a few friends who were
noticing my weight loss.
That’s how Slim Mornings: Indian Breakfast Edition
was born.
It’s not a big fancy diet plan or anything. It’s just 20
simple recipes, all focused on helping you start your mornings light and full.
I also added a few short sections explaining things like what calories really
are, what a calorie deficit means, and how to find your TDEE (Total Daily
Energy Expenditure). Basically, the stuff I wish someone had explained to me in
simple words when I started trying to lose weight.
I’ve learned that breakfast really does set the tone for the
day. When I eat right in the morning, I naturally make better choices later.
When I skip or go heavy, it usually goes downhill fast.
Anyway, if you’re curious or just want some easy,
no-nonsense Indian breakfast ideas, you can check out the book here:

It’s just a small project I put together, but it honestly
helped me fix my own routine, and maybe it can help someone else too.
